Triangular Golf Tournament 2013

The annual Triangular “needle” match was played in beautiful sunny conditions at Hockley Golf Club on Tuesday 4th June between the Symondians, The Old Tauntonians and The Old Edwardians.

Three teams of 8 players each played in threes against each other in singles matchplay.  The result is often very close and this year’s competition was no exception, the outcome being  a narrow win for The Old Edwardians over The Symondians decided by the last putt in the last match on the last green.

As the current holders of the impressive silver trophy that has been competed for every year since 1949, The Old Edwardians stated their intention to attempt a hat trick of wins in 2014.  Team captain, Bob Stilwell, spoke for the two other sides when he promised the stiffest future competition and every intention of The Symondians to win the trophy in the centenary year of Hockley Golf Club who has hosted the competition throughout.

Supper and prize giving were held afterwards in an atmosphere of friendly rivalry and camaraderie which, with the introduction of some young Symondian golfers, will serve to keep the spirit of competition and friendship alive for the future.
